Face Masks: Why are they necessary?

Posted on 15th Jul 2020

There's been a lot of debate and a lot of different information coming from different sources throughout the world relating to face masks. Why do we actually need them? What benefit do they have? And why should we wear them? As of July 24th 2020, face masks are mandatory to wear in supermarkets, and there's a lot of confusion whether we should wear them in offices. The government have even gone so far as to begin fining people who don't, so evidently, it's a very important factor. A factor that provides a lot of discomfort, especially for those who wear glasses. They certainly blur your vision!
But despite the discomfort, face masks are extremely important to stopping the spread of COVID-19. An international report, published by the 'Lancet', which analysed 172 studies in 16 countries, found that by wearing a face mask, there is only a 3% chance of catching the virus. The key is to be covering your nose and mouth, as well as eyes if possible. Face masks are vital to stopping the spread, and that has been recognised across the country, and as well as the world. All of our carers are wearing full PPE equipment on the daily, and whilst understandably uncomfortable, it's vital to saving lives.
There are statistics everywhere about face masks. How such a simple measure can save so many lives - and it's vital that we understand and adhere to these rules. Little would we know, we could be saving others' lives, just through protecting ourselves too. At The Care Company, we endeavour to make sure everyone is as safe as they can be, and as such, we want to inform as many people as we can on the benefits that face masks offer. It's often the small things that make such a large difference!
